Install SQL Server 2008 32 bit on 64 bit os

Hi Friends,

Today I got a question on “can you install SQL Server 2008 32 bit on 64 bit os?”

Answer: Yes, you can !

During setup, click on the Options link and select the architecture (64 bit or 31 bit). By default on a 64 bit OS, x64 bit will be selected. You need to change it to x86.

  1. Hi Marc & PM, sorry for the late reply. I would simply put it as – Many ISVs have product & bit specific application support in whihc case it may be required that their application be run on specific version (even build number) and specific bit (32 bit or 64 bit) of SQL Server. HTH !

  2. I have the reverse question…can you install the 64-bit-version of SQL Server 2008 on a 32 bit OS?
