T.K. “Ranga” Rengarajan
T.K. “Ranga” Rengarajan leads the Data Platform team, as part of the Cloud and Enterprise Division at Microsoft. As a Corporate Vice President for Data Platform, he is responsible for the Database and Big Data businesses. His engineering team builds SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, Azure HDInsight (Hadoop on Azure), Azure DocumentDB, Azure Search and Analytics Platform System.
Prior to this role, Ranga held senior leadership positions at SAP, Wily, Sybase, Digital Equipment Corporation and at several Silicon Valley startups. At SAP, he was responsible for the Business Analytics and Hana applications. Prior to SAP, he ran Wily’s application management solutions. He also held executive positions in engineering, operations, and support at Silicon Valley startups focused on customer experience management, wireless, security, and internet messaging services.
Earlier in his career, Ranga ran database server development for Sybase, Inc. At Digital Equipment Corporation, Ranga was among the youngest individuals elected as a Distinguished Engineer and set the world record in transaction processing with Oracle Rdb product in the TPC-A benchmark, resulting in papers and patents.
Ranga holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin. He lives in the Silicon Valley with his wife and two beautiful daughters.
